Between the mid-70s and the mid-90s I wrote a few hundred poems. I compile here some of my personal favorites from that foundational era of my creative life. I asked Mr. Peabody to crank up his Waback Machine, turned myself into my inner Sherman, and followed him into it to revisit that era (if you never watched “The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show,” you may need to Google that one!) (Wa)back then, my life was divided into two seemingly incommensurable parts, the line of demarcation an out-of-the blue pronouncement from my then-wife on Christmas Eve (of all days!) in 1977, one that disassembled my world down to a granular level. It took me a few years to piece a new and better one together. Here, I put the reassembling poems first, which is how history should always be written: looking back into the dark from the light that comes after it.
